Amanda Chapman

Amanda is the Co – Head of Private Wealth, and Head of Philanthropy.

Amanda has over 20 years experience and has previously worked in a boutique firm in Mayfair and a large international city practice. She specialises in estate, wealth and tax planning, with an emphasis on family succession, inheritance and capital gains tax, domicile and residence/remittance planning, family business governance, and charity law and practice.  She advises on a broad range of trust and structuring matters, both onshore and offshore, including alternate structures, privacy and asset protection.

Her clients include UK domiciled and non-domiciled individuals and families, family businesses, fiduciaries, family offices and charities.

Amanda works closely with her colleagues in our Property, Corporate, Immigration and Family departments to ensure that there is a team approach to clients and their legal requirements where appropriate.

 

Private Client / Private Wealth

  • Creation of a wealth protection structure to secure the growth and succession of a family business, to include an offshore limited partnership, trust and foundation.  Working with family law colleagues to facilitate both pre-nuptial and post-nuptial, and cohabitation agreements for various family members.
  • Advising three generations of a family on their generational succession planning, including inheritance tax and capital gains tax advice on various gifts and transfers, both outright and into trust.
  • Advising on residence and domicile status for an internationally mobile entrepreneur.
  • Consolidating two charitable entities, and dealing with all legal, regulatory, reporting and governance matters, and working with a colleague to manage the triggering of liabilities for existing pension obligations.
  • Creating protective trusts for the disabled child of existing family clients.
  • Assisting a UK family with the purchase and structuring of second homes in France and Spain.
  • Restructuring a family charitable trust before incorporating it as a Charitable Incorporated Organisation.
  • Creation of a property development fund, working with advisors in Jersey and Malta, for a significant hotel portfolio held by a family.
  • Establishing a family investment company for a family, one member of which being a property developer creating a UK and offshore property portfolio.
  • Acting for the spouse of a gentleman who died without a Will,  leaving assets in multiple jurisdictions including Germany, UK, Isle of Man and the US – navigating UK deemed domicile rules and applicable intestacy rules of each jurisdiction.
  • Assisting a newly UK resident client in the establishment of personal household staff both in his London home and working with his US advisor in relation to his US home, to manage the occasional mobility of his staff between houses.
